St Louis family photographer’s Mommy & Me sessions:
The Jewel Box display greenhouse was empty when we arrived. The boys quickly filled the glass walled room with their fun, inquisitive personalities. The two older brothers ran from end to end, up and down the curved staircase, eagerly feeling new plant textures and seeing new sights. Camera forgotten, mom abandoned with baby E, the race to see the most stuff in the shortest amount of time was on!
After several loops around the garden, K & A were relatively ready for hugs and smiles, at least for a minute or two. Then they were off again! Mom took their explorations in stride, only putting her foot down when a bromeliad was dislodged from a planter. Oops. The “punishment?” Obligatory hugs with your brother in front of the camera. The result? A beautiful portrait to grace the walls, remind mom of the story behind the image and that her boys were little once. (I’m told reminders of how little and sweet they were are especially important when they hit the teenage years and beyond. Mine aren’t there, yet.)
This is motherhood. It’s real, it’s honest, it’s messy and it’s beautiful. It’s tired toddlers and crying babies. It’s loving boys who need only their mother’s touch to feel better. Motherhood is raising beautiful, energetic boys day in and day out. It’s helping them realize when they’ve done wrong and loving them anyway. It’s bribing with snacks and receiving kisses. Motherhood: exhausting and exhilarating.
