My winter time love: family portraits indoor, at home. Why? Because:
“Can we do our portraits indoor?”
I cringe. “Well, that depends. Where are you thinking? A room with overhead lights and no windows?”
I think she could hear my reluctance. “No, no, no, [it’ll be] at my house. My son is turning one and I would love to have family photos. I just don’t want to go outside. I want to do the portraits indoor.”
That conversation bore the beginnings of one of the most fun and relaxing family portrait sessions to date. At their house, surrounded by their comforts, everyone felt relaxed, especially the husband and sons. As the photographer, I was the new shiny object which helped focus the older son’s interest right away.
Plus, Chelsea and I met earlier in the week. Together we finalized outfit choices (she wore a gorgeous scarf!) and discussed her plans for the portraits we intended to make. Four monthes ago, Chelsea was leery of doing a family portrait session; “I have printed my photos from my last session!” Not an issue when we work together! After your session, we’ll meet one more time to choose your favorite portraits and I’ll print them as beautiful archival prints, canvases or metals. Also, Chelsea and I worked together to bring her idea of a family portrait timeline to fruition. The gallery wall starts with their engagement portrait, then wedding, maternity,… all the way up to these 1 year portraits of her second son. Pretty awesome right? *Yes, I can help style and create gallery walls incorporating previous portraits as well as my own*
As of this posting, we are still choosing three more images to be made into canvases but we are well on our way!
